Cuil Vs Google search engine - A web developer view

As you may have heard, former Google employees have unveiled a new search engine called www.cuil.com which is pronounced as 'cool'.
They say it is biggest search engine on internet.I had a quick look at this new search engine. I must say that it has a promising look.

I have seen so many search engines in the last few years such as altavista.com, lycos.com aol.com etc... most of them have faded away from the top spot.

As a web developer, I would like to analyze the changes which may bring to the internet world due to this new search engine.Also for web masters whether they need to give any importance to this new engine.

Google is Simple

Google is one of the greatest success stories of internet revolution. Beauty about Google search is it is simple and for a normal ordinary user it is simple to understand how to use it. Search result displayed in simple format. No complication in understanding anything about it.
Also for web developers, Google offers so many APIs such as Google Map, Google search APIs etc... And they can be implemented easily in other web applications

Can Cuil change peoples online search behavior?

Personally I didn't like the black color used in Cuil home page. As I mentioned early it is Google�s search simplicity made it more popular among the internet users.

If Cuil wants to change the behavior of the search engine users, it has to come up with a simple layout and simple search result page. I liked the drilling category feature on Cuil search result page. Also search result display looks bit odd to me but they can improve on it.

Can Cuil challenge Google commercially?

It is difficult to predict but Cuil may take some search engine market in coming years if they index data properly and present it to users in right format. It needs to build users trust that they can find what they are looking for on cuil search result.

Real challenge to any company competing with Google would be challenging its Advertising business so if Cuil wants to challenge Google it has to come up with a new Ad business model which should be simple as Google Adsense and Adwords.

For Webmasters

I would suggest webmasters to submit your pages to cuil as well. Basically I like competition in this world. You can find the web submission information page for Cuil at : http://www.cuil.com/info/webmaster_info/


Success of this new search engine would be depending on how normal users take the news about the launch of new search engine.
If it can�t make any impact then it will fade away like all the other search engines in the past.

Database connection pooling in ADO.Net

Imagine a situation that multiple users are connecting the same database through our application. In an application establishing a database connection and logging into it is a time consuming activity. It needs several seconds for every time it establishes a connection. So opening and maintaining a database connection for each user is not an ideal solution.
